Law firm Porter Dodson, based across Somerset & Dorset, has appointed a new managing partner. Kate James takes on the role from Rob Fox, who retires in April after more than 35 years with the firm.
Kate James joined Porter Dodson in 2005, training with the firm and qualifying in 2007. She was appointed to the partnership in 2013 and took on the roles of Head of the Wellington office and Head of the Private Client Team. Kate’s in-depth knowledge and passion for marketing led to her hosting seminars advising on Inheritance Tax and succession planning and the success of these formed the basis of a strong reputation, for which she is well known across the region.
When asked about her journey from secretary to managing partner, Kate said “I am so proud, as are my family. Rob will be a really tough act to follow but he has been fully supportive of me, as has the board. I plan to continue working with many of my clients, offering the same excellent advice that they have always received. I will be based in Wellington, working with the board and partners to implement the firm’s plans for continued growth. Hiring good people is essential. Working with the right people is key, and I want to take everyone with us on the journey ahead.”
Kate’s advice to those wanting to follow in her footsteps?
“There will always be obstacles in your way. You have to stick your head above the parapet and get noticed. Be commercial, put yourself out there, do the business development, work hard and have confidence in yourself. With the support of those around you, you can achieve your goals.”
Porter Dodson employs nearly 200 people at its eight offices across the South West and has a number of vacancies for skilled and motivated lawyers and support staff. To learn more about joining this award winning law firm, visit https://www.porterdodson.co.uk/vacancies
