Making Green Normal – commit to climate actions for your business alongside Taunton Chamber of Commerce
The UK will host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) at the SEC in Glasgow on 31 October – 12 November. The climate talks will bring together heads of state, climate experts and campaigners to agree coordinated action to tackle climate change https://ukcop26.org/
At Taunton Chamber, we are pledging to work with and support our members on a journey towards carbon neutrality over the coming years, enabling the Taunton business community to:
- Build Back Better and Grow
- Future Proof Business
- Be Part of the Solution
UK Business Climate Hub
In the first instance, we are calling on all members to sign up to the UK Business Climate Hub https://smeclimatehub.org/uk/ a UN-backed commitment process, where firms and organisations of all sizes will be joining a community of thousands of like-minded businesses and will receive regular newsletters and information from UK government to support you through your eco-journey.
Enhanced Capital Allowances for efficient technologies
Speak to your accountant about the Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) scheme, which aims to encourage businesses to invest in efficient technologies. The scheme lets your business claim 100 per cent first-year allowances, ie tax relief, on investments in certain technologies and products. This means you can write off, ie deduct, the whole cost, or up to the published claim value, of buying the energy-saving product against your taxable profits in the year of purchase – and using the equipment itself will help reduce the impact your business has on the environment.
Local Activity – Support for Taunton Chamber Members
Carbon Reduction Grant Members will have seen information shared on email and our website regarding the Carbon Reduction Grant currently on offer from Somerset County Council. Please note that applications for this grant close on 30th September.
Making Green Normal’ – Taunton Chamber online Members Event: Tuesday 9th November
We know that many of our member businesses, both large and small are making firm and deliberate steps to ensure that their operations are more eco-friendly going forward. Fostering mutual support across our membership is a key aim of the Taunton Chamber of Commerce and so on Tuesday 9th November we will be holding an online forum, giving businesses the opportunity to share tips, advice and support with fellow members and the wider local business community, so that we can all move along the journey to carbon neutrality together.
Have tips and information you would like to share at the event? Please contact Bethan [email protected]> for a conversation about how you can get involved.
