Despite welcome news of a rebound in business activity, confidence and cashflow, albeit from an historically low base, the speed and extent of the South West’s economic recovery is threatened by labour market tightness and recruitment issues, according to the latest British Chambers of Commerce South West Quarterly Economic Survey. The survey highlights issues for businesses trying to recruit at all skill levels. From the highly skilled manual and technical roles, where two thirds are experiencing difficulties finding the right staff, to the professional and managerial personnel that over half of services-based firms are struggling to hire.
The survey very much backs up the ‘on the ground’ scenarios that Taunton Chamber of Commerce member business, Love Lifestyle, run by Relocation and Property expert Helen Heyns, has been encountering since the beginning of the year:
“Businesses across the South West are struggling to recruit skilled workers and this is very much a hot topic of conversation with the firms and property agencies I have been working with” says Helen. “Many businesses are now looking outside of the area, highlighting the better quality of life available here in the South West. However, the last thing you want is to attract the right person but it doesn’t work out because the family are not happy”
Helping people to create their dream lifestyle here in the South West is at the core of Helen’s business, and having assisted many families to make the move to this area: sourcing property and schooling and coordinating the logistics of moving, Helen has now developed a Relocation Service, in response to the continuing skills shortage, aimed at supporting local employers recruiting from outside of the area.
A copy of Helen’s brochure is available free of charge, and Love Lifestyle are offering fellow Taunton Chamber of Commerce members a discounted price for services used. For a conversation about how Helen’s expertise could support your recruitment and retention, contact Love Lifestyle:
