Arc, the Somerset homelessness charity, has unveiled its new festive giving initiative, Bags of Joy, marking an exciting evolution of a Christmas tradition that has now been running for a decade.
For ten years, supporters across Somerset have generously donated shoeboxes filled with thoughtful festive treats and essential items. These gifts have brought warmth, comfort, and a sense of connection to hundreds of people experiencing homelessness each Christmas.
This year, Arc is refreshing the campaign to better reflect the changing needs of the people it supports. Bags of Joy offer a more joyful and person-centred way to give, allowing supporters to donate gift bags filled with small but meaningful items such as toiletries, socks, sweets, stationery, hot chocolate sachets, and festive treats.
“The spirit of the Shoebox Appeal remains firmly at the heart of what we do,” says Sam Parr, Communications & Fundraising Officer at Arc. “But Bags of Joy allows us to share that kindness in a way that feels more personal and uplifting for the people receiving it. It’s a simple change that can make a big difference at a time of year that can be incredibly tough for those experiencing homelessness.”
Donations can be delivered to Arc’s drop-off locations between 17th November and 12th December. Full details, including suggested items to include, can be found on Arc’s website at www.arcinspire.co.uk/News as well as their Facebook Page.
With the message “One small bag, one big difference,” Arc hopes the refreshed campaign will honour its ten-year legacy of spreading kindness and hope throughout the festive season.
Alongside the Bags of Joy initiative, you can also get involved by donating items for Arc’s Christmas Hamper Campaign or by making a monetary donation through the Joy to Give Appeal. Full details can also be found on the website.
